Osteopathy - Caring for you as an individual.

TREATING THE BODY AS A WHOLE

Sarah-Moore-sq.jpg

Sarah Moore

Sarah Moore D.O graduated from the British School of Osteopathy in 1989 and has treated patients consistently since then, with many patients returning with different problems and recommending work colleagues, friends and family to the clinic.

Osteopathy looks at the patient as a whole being, the body as a functional unit. The structure of our bodies governs our function, so treatment of the structural problems will often reduce pain and improve mobility. Treatment uses a variety of hands on techniques, supported by postural and lifestyle advice as well as exercises.

Osteopaths treat most joints, so conditions that respond well include: neck and back pain and stiffness, shoulder, elbow, hip and knee pain and dysfunction, headache, sports injuries, repetitive strain injuries, postural & occupational stresses and strains. We are happy to discuss your symptoms prior to an appointment to ensure Osteopathy will suit your needs.

Ongoing development is essential, osteopaths are all regulated by the General Osteopathic Council. We all undergo a continuing professional development programme to enhance our individual practice and for the benefit of the profession. This helps us offer the best care for our patients.

"My aim is to relieve your pain to help you return to your normal daily routine and improve your quality of life."

PHILOSOPHY
BASIC PRINCIPLES OF OSTEOPATHY

Osteopathy is a recognised manual therapy which focuses on joints, muscles and

the spine.

Osteopathy was formed from the greek words Osteon (bone) and (pathos) suffering

As Osteopaths we believe that the body has a natural ability to recover from ill

health when it is functioning effectively.

Often we have pain caused by injury, postural or mechanical stress which can lead to musculoskeletal dysfunction which is likely to respond to osteopathic treatment.

Your osteopath will use a hands on approach to initially help diagnose, then treat your symptoms, to encourage your body to naturally restore good health and function.

Osteopathic techniques include: soft tissue massage, joint mobilisation, muscle and joint stretching and joint manipulation.

YOUR FIRST VISIT

The initial consultation will take 50-60 minutes, where a full history will be taken to discuss your presenting problem, as well as recording a full  current and previous medical history. Your osteopath will ask about your general health and lifestyle which may be relevant to your presenting problem.

A physical examination will take place, for which you may be asked to undress to underwear.

Your osteopath will assess your posture and mobility using a range of simple movements, followed by a hands on examination to feel muscular tension and poor structural function. This examination, combined with the case history and any other tests relevant to the symptoms, will help to formulate a diagnosis and your individual treatment plan. We encourage referral to other healthcare professionals or your GP if this is indicated.

Treatment will involve a variety of hands on methods including soft tissue massage, stretching and manipulation techniques which will be individual to your treatment plan which will evolve as you improve.

Appropriate exercises and lifestyle advice will be discussed to help you get your life back to normal.
